CD881: BEETHOVEN Sonata No. 9, op. 47 “Kreutzer”, and FRANCK Violin Sonata in A Major.  The Weiss Duo: Sidney Weiss, Violin; Jeanne Weiss, Piano.

Two of the most vibrant and important violin sonatas in history, played by Sidney Weiss, who has had a long career as concertmaster of major symphony orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony (1967-1972), the Monte Carlo Philharmonic (1973-1979), and the Los Angeles Philharmonic (1979-1994). “The Kreutzer Sonata has all the ingredients of a first-rate performance:the Adagio opens with a blazing cadenza...the ensuing Presto possesses demonic propulsion and stylized glamour. Even more impressive is their Andante con Variazioni movement...the intrinsic balance, bravura technique, and poetic expression. The buoyant energy of the ensemble and its realization of Beethoven’s unfettered spirit make this a rendition to treasure.” Audiophile Audition
The Weiss Duo has performed extensively in the United States and Europe. They have three other acclaimed CDs on Crystal: CD633: Elgar, Walton, and Strauss Sonatas; CD511: Mendelssohn and Haydn Concertos for Violin, Piano, and Orchestra; and CD835: works by Chausson, Leclair, and Debussy.
